I just mailed out a mountain of adoption paperwork to my agency.A special "THANK YOU" goes to my grandfather who saved the day because he had a copy of all my Income Tax Returns for the last 10 years. I have moved so many times and every time I move I put stuff in a new "safe" location." I could have found maybe 3-4 years worth, but beyond that I would have been stuck.
I have had a state police, child abuse, and FBI background check. They are also going to check in with the local CYS and my local borough police to make sure I haven't gotten in any trouble on a local level. (Wouldn't all the above clearances tell them that?) Oh well… I am glad they are so thorough.
I have taken 16 hours of training, CPR/First Aid, and I just need a policies and procedures training before I get any kids, although they are willing to come to my house to do that training... I really don't think there could be a more boring training...
I had to fill out a resume, budget, and health forms, as well as have two of my doctors’ fill out health forms.
All I have left is to finish a questionnaire form with lots and lots of questions, take the policy and procedures training, and finish writing my autobiography (I already wrote this once for the former agency I was going through - they only wanted 3-4 pages... this agency REALLY wants to get to know you... they expect it will take about 7-10 pages to write everything.)
Once that is done, they will come to my house to do the home inspection. I have all the cabinet locks, outlet covers, locks for medicine cabinet, smoke detectors on every floor, and my fire extinguisher has been serviced and is good for another 6 years.
(A special thank you also to my Uncle Mickey for giving me the fire extinguisher...)
Well, every day I am a little closer... hopefully my references will fill out their paperwork quickly. I don't know if they have received their paperwork yet. Oh, well... God's timing is absolutely perfect so I don't have to worry...

Have you asked yourself (at least once) why adopting required SO SO much work (and paperwork) but biological parents are required almost nothing to show they're prepared except an intact car seat at the hospital? I applaud you (actually God within you) for the perseverance and joy you're showing thru these preparations.
Thanks Zo.
I think they should make it this difficult to get your kids back once the system gets involved.
You should have to have a million background checks, have your house all nice and clean... always... go through a ton of trainings, answer a bazillion questions, and get a bunch of references from co-workers, employers, (assuming they have a job...) community people, etc...
The system is flawed... I am rushing to get into it, to get my kids, but hope I don't have to be a part of it for very long... the system is heartbreaking.
Thanks for your encouragement.
I am getting so excited... no... make that I AM excited! :)
