Accountability is a funny thing. It can make you do things you wouldn't normally do or not do things you would normally do.
My feet have very high arches which have been causing me a lot of problems lately. One of the treatments the doctor has prescribed for me is what I call a foot shocker where I hook up these wires and pads to my feet for 30 minutes a few times a day and send electric pulses through my feet. It feels like a foot massage. It takes time and with my busy schedule as good as it feels, it is a hassle. I am motivated to do this however for two reasons. One - it is making a difference and two... the machine comes with a data card that I will have to send back to the company. If my insurance company finds out I am not regularly using this equipment, they will not continue to pay for it. If however I regularly use it for 3 months, they will buy it for me (right now it is just being rented from the company.) I have been making an effort to use this daily... Accountability.
A few friends of mine got together and are holding each other accountable to not gain weight over the holidays. We each had to pay $15 and if we gain weight we don't get our money back. However if we stay the same weight or lose weight we get our money back plus we split the money of those that gain weight. I hear there are a few prizes involved too... We started before Thanksgiving and it ends the weekend after New Years. I was at church today and as I was walking out past the coffee bar they said the cookies were free and I could have one if I wanted. I said, "No thanks" and kept on walking. So far I have lost one pound... Accountability.
The Lord does not want us to go through this world and the trials that come on our own. He gives us family and friends to stand by us, to help us when we are down, to pick us back up, and to encourage us to keep running the race. We are to support one another, love one another, and bear one another’s burdens.
Accountability is a wonderful gift from the Lord. It helps us do what we wouldn't do otherwise. I am so grateful for all the people the Lord has brought into my life to help me grow, mature, and to become more like Christ.
