I watched the movie the Guardian this weekend. The movie was about the Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. I was really struck by what these amazing men and women do. The movie showed scenes of swimmers leaving safe, dry, ground and going out at night on rough seas where ships were sinking and saving people who were drowning, people who would die if it weren't for the swimmers. These swimmers put themselves in harms way for these strangers.
As I thought about the movie over the weekend I couldn't help but see the connection of the Gospel. I was the soul drowning at sea and Jesus was the "Swimmer" on safe, dry, ground sitting on His throne in heaven. He chose to leave that throne to come rescue me. I could not save myself. I needed a Savior. The Swimmer sacrificed Himself so I could live.
In the movie the swimmers are taught that they are the last hope, the miracle that these people are praying for to get them out of this life and death situation. Jesus is the only hope, the only miracle to get us out of our life and death situation. We need a Savior.
When I stand before the Lord on judgment day and the Lord asks me why He should let me in, there is only one answer. It is not because I was a good person and tried to live a good life. The only answer is because Jesus paid the price for my sins. His blood paid my debt in full. I have been forgiven of my sins. I am now an heir with Christ because of His death and resurrection.
How amazing it is that the Lord who created the universe left His throne. He humbled himself and became a man. He showed us the way to the Father and then died to save us so that we could spend eternity with Him. What great love. Thank you Lord for such great mercy.
