No I didn't get a new job. But as I was driving home today, these were the first words that popped out of my mouth when I saw what was in front of me. Other people in my situation might have said, "Great, this is just what I need right now" in a sarcastic tone, and others might have just let out a heavy sigh. Perspective is everything. What was it that I saw in front of me that made me yell gleefully, "Yeah... Finally!!!"? (Get ready to laugh and roll your eyes.) There in front of me was a train crossing the tracks.
Why all the excitement? Well, I always thought that this particular crossing was very dangerous. A few months ago they finally installed a railroad crossing complete with lights and bars that come down when a train crosses. I had never had the opportunity to see the new railroad crossing in action though since they had installed all the "bells and whistles" so to speak so I was excited to see that it worked, and take a quick break knowing that this part of road is now a little safer because of the working railroad crossing.
Perspective is everything. I had to laugh. I am sitting there as happy as can be excited that I got to see the train and I am thinking, "I bet I am the only person in all these cars excited that I'm being held up by this train going through." As I have shared in previous posts I have this fascination with trains so it was a special treat to just get to watch the train go by and even better that I wasn't in a hurry to be anywhere.
How we look at our situations really does make all the difference in the world. I could have been frustrated because I was stuck waiting on the train, but instead found the positive and enjoyed myself... that trial was easy though, because I like trains.
Now if I can just remember to apply this to how I look at my job when I get frustrated.

Very insightful! And I am like you, I like trains, too, but I have a healthy fear of them and they do take my mind back to two tragedies. I'm one of those peeople who ALWAYS stopsz at the tracks no matter what, look both ways, then again, then ZOOM over them! I"m glad God gave you perspective in this. Sometimes we do need a "nice" trial to help us gain new perspective.
Thanks Zo for always commenting. It is nice to have a comment on my blog once in a while. (Thanks to Beth, Bethany and Sarah too.)
